Petition for Free Primary Education for Orphaned Children in Somalia

This petition calls on the Somali government and education partners to provide free primary education for orphaned children. It requests free tuition, learning materials, uniforms, and transportation support so that no child is denied education because they have lost their parents or cannot afford school fees.

Background

Thousands of Somali children have lost one or both parents because of conflict, displacement, poverty, disease, and other difficult circumstances. Many of these children are unable to attend school because their guardians cannot afford tuition fees, uniforms, textbooks, transportation, or other basic educational expenses. No child should be denied an education because they have lost their parents or because their family cannot afford school fees. Education is a fundamental right and one of the most effective ways to protect vulnerable children from exploitation, child labour, early marriage, recruitment into armed groups, crime, and long-term poverty. We therefore respectfully request: Free enrolment and tuition in public primary schools for all verified orphaned children. Provision of essential learning materials, including uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, and stationery. Financial or transportation assistance for children who live far from school. A transparent registration system to identify eligible children while protecting their privacy and dignity. Dedicated government funding for the education of orphaned and vulnerable children. Partnerships with private schools, businesses, Somali communities, diaspora organizations, charities, and international education partners. Regular monitoring to ensure that assistance reaches the intended children and that they remain enrolled in school. Equal access for girls, children with disabilities, internally displaced children, and children living in rural or underserved communities. We urge the Somali government and its partners to make this initiative a national priority. Supporting an orphaned child’s education is not merely an act of charity—it is an investment in Somalia’s peace, development, stability, and future. Every orphaned child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a dignified life. Our request is clear: No orphaned child in Somalia should be excluded from primary education because they cannot afford it.
